Essentials Part 1: Exercise

What is the one essential key to having a happy healthy dog?

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise! I can’t stress enough how essential EXERCISE is for your dog. They need at least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise a day to be content and some dogs need more.

Dogs are made to move! In the wild, dogs travel miles a day hunting for food, water, and shelter. Their exercise was to survive.

Now that dogs are domesticated, they have certain jobs pertaining to the individual breed groups. For Example, if you have a Water Dog (Newfoundland, Portuguese Water Dog), take them to a lake and let them swim! Did you know that just 10 minutes of swimming equals one mile of running! If you have a Retriever play a retrieving game. Even though any dog can do any job, most dogs do the job that they were bred to do the best. So know your breed and have the breed do what it is bred to do!
